The company is known for its robust and powerful smartphones, recently presented its new rugged beauty, the Blackview BV8800 model. The company has been very valuable in the last few years, so they have released a large number of smartphones that you can find and compare in our popular Comparison . By the way, there are two BV8800 models – this one which is 4G and the Blackview BV8800 Pro which is a 5G smartphone. However, since in practice we still do not feel the "blessings" of the new 5G networks, this 4G is quite sufficient.

There are three main characteristics that make this smartphone recognizable - the first is certainly its robustness and resistance to anything and everything, then a stronger battery and an infrared Night Vision camera that can see even in the dark. These are already enough reasons to get this smartphone, not to mention all the others. Namely, robust smartphones are no longer "weak" as they were a few years ago (slow processor, below-average cameras), but you will get a perfectly balanced smartphone in which it is very difficult to find a weak characteristic.

The same goes for this model, so if you need a durable and reliable smartphone for all those non-office conditions, the Blackview BV8800 could very well become your new mobile pet. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, whether at work or in your free time, work in a warehouse, a car repair shop or like to travel, hike and do extreme sports, this is the smartphone for you. We can even recommend it to kids because it has a very good processor for video games, a large and protected screen for watching movies, so if it falls out of your hand, nothing will happen.

Like all previous smartphones of this brand, we purchased the Blackview BV8800 from the popular domestic SE-MARK webshop , where it is already on sale at a very favorable price. And we're going to take a look in the box and see what we got with it.

The box is usually low and wide, it is white with silver letters, and on the bottom side are printed the basic details of the smartphone, which is located in the left part of the case. Under it you will find the mandatory paperwork such as user inquiries and warranty card. On the right side of the box there is a charger and charging cable with USB Type-C input on both sides.

I would say classically robust, in terms of dimensions of course larger, thicker and heavier than standard smartphones, which is to be expected. The case is very strong, it is made of a combination of plastic and rubberized corners, while on the left and right edges it is additionally reinforced with metal plates (aluminum alloy) on one side of which is written "Shockproof" (resistant to mechanical damage) and on the other "Waterproof". (waterproof).

When we already mention its strength, let's say that it is waterproof and dustproof in accordance with IP68/IP69K certificates, and in accordance with the military MIL-STD-810-G standard, it is resistant to shocks, falls, scratches, pressure, moisture and extremely high and low temperatures. It can easily fall from a height of 1.2 meters, nothing will happen to it. Of course, if the screen falls on a blade, it won't last :) If you throw it into water at a depth of 1.5 meters, it can last up to 30 minutes. Since the hardware is a bit overpowered, a special water cooling system (3D Liquid Cooling System) is installed, which can reduce the temperature of the processor by up to 8.5°C, which will be especially useful if you like to play video games. Honestly, I don't remember that we had a robust smartphone with water cooling during the test. Here is the first one... :)

The front is dominated by a large screen with a teardrop notch in which the front camera is located, the frame around the screen is slightly larger and slightly "raised" - this means that if you turn the smartphone with the screen down, the same screen will remain in the air. It also houses the associated distance and lighting sensors, as well as the LED notification light (red/green).

You will especially like the look of the rear camera in a special octagonal rounded frame, which also houses the corresponding LED flash and what you can't see – 2 infrared sensors (IR). Above the camera is a small dot, it could be an additional microphone for better phone calls and video recording. Likewise, the rear plastic is specially designed so that the smartphone does not slip in the hand, and a little below there is the company logo and some additional information about the device. In the lower part of the case, you will also find a slot for a lanyard, so you can, for example, wear the smartphone around your neck.

Inputs and outputs are on the edges - on the left is a slot for nanoSim cards (no microSD memory expansion) and a special programmable button (by default set for taking photos, this can be changed in the settings), on the right are buttons for sound control and turning on the device in which there is also a fingerprint reader, while below are the microphone and speaker, as well as the USB Type-C input.

As for the dimensions, it measures 176.2 x 83.5 x 17.7 millimeters and weighs 365 grams. True, it is heavier and larger, but that has to be because of the very robust case that supports all the necessary certificates.

Blackview BV8800 Review

The first thing I noticed was how the screen automatically turns on as soon as you pick up the smartphone from the table and take it in your hand. Great, it also has that sensor. By the way, the screen is also one of its strongest characteristics, and it is signed by the well-known JDI (Japan Display Inc). It is a 6.58-inch IPS in-cell screen with a FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2408 pixels (401 ppi), a ratio of 20:9, and occupies 71.12% of the front surface of the smartphone. Otherwise, it is sensitive to simultaneous touch in 5 points (multitouch), and it is commendable that it has a refresh rate of 90Hz and is resistant to scratches (CSG protective glass).

There is also an additional film on the screen that further protects the screen, I definitely recommend leaving it on because the screen reacts well to touch. Likewise, it does not attract fingerprints and is very easy to clean with an ordinary dry tissue. The content is perfectly visible clean and clear, the icons are sharp and the colors are realistic.

We measured the brightness of the screen with our measuring instrument and got a result of 462 Lux, so you will be able to use it very comfortably even in daylight.

This time they decided to install a slightly stronger processor. It is a MediaTek 8-core Helio G96 (MT6781) processor manufactured in 12-nanometer FFC technology (Q3, 2021), which has the following arrangement of cores:

– 2x ARM Cortex-A76 at 2.05GHz

– 6x ARM Cortex-A55 at 2.0GHz

Let's mention that the ARM Mali-G57 MC2 graphics at 950MHz are also integrated, so video games should also work very well. If we add 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM (dual-channel at 2133MHz) and 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal memory, it is not difficult to conclude that you can seriously count on this smartphone.

The cameras are better than I expected, both the front and the rear four. I can also praise a very good application that manages the cameras, it has a lot of different modes and settings, so you will be able to take very good photos and videos.

The front camera is 16MP with a Samsung S5K3P9SX sensor and an aperture of f/2.0, and it also uses the white screen as a flash. The camera supports face recognition and beautification, HDR, as well as mono and portrait mode, and can also be used to unlock the device by face recognition (Face Unlock). The camera can record FHD video in 1920 x 1080 pixels and 30 frames per second ( 1080@30fps ) in MP4 format.

The rear camera is quadruple

– 16MP main – Samsung ISOCELL GN1, aperture f/1.8

– 8MP wide-angle – 117° FoV, aperture f/2.2

– 2MP depth – aperture f/1.8

– 20MP infrared – Sony IMX350 sensor, IR Night Vision , 2x IR emitters

A two-tone LED flash is available to users, and the cameras support auto focus, face recognition and beautification, and artificial intelligence, as well as mono and portrait mode. I am very satisfied with the photos in all shooting conditions, in short it is well balanced so there are no unexpected omissions. Of course, it is not the best, but for a robust smartphone it is extremely good. Here are some photos taken in different shooting conditions.

Of course, the specialty of the Blackview BV8800 smartphone is its infrared camera located at the top right (IR Night Vision Camera), while below the cameras there are two infrared sensors so that it can take photos even in complete darkness! Recommendation - try to keep your hand as still as possible. Otherwise, the photos taken will be black and white, and here are some photos taken with this camera, they are perfectly fine. It can also record infrared video in 2K resolution, so this smartphone can also be a security camera in a way, especially if you travel a lot, rent a room or house, or want to be sure of your privacy. It can also help to protect against unauthorized intrusions on your property, or to detect animals in the wild.

As for video, the camera is also a step ahead of the vast majority of competing rugged smartphones – it can record 2K video in 2560 x 1440 pixels and 30 frames per second ( 2K@30fps ) also in MP4 format. You often ask if a smartphone can record underwater and in the sea, for the BV8800 the answer is simple - it can.

The speaker is standard on the bottom (right) and is very good, and better than I expected. Namely, it is not just the usual "flat" sound, but deep tones are also felt, so you will even be able to listen to music very solidly. Of course, for better quality, use wireless headphones and a speaker. It should be mentioned that this smartphone does not have a 3.5mm audio input, unless you have a USB-C adapter.

We tested the sound volume on several musical numbers in high FLAC quality - with our measuring instrument, at a distance of about 40 centimeters (approximately how far the smartphone is from your ear when you hold it in your hand), we measured a sound volume of 82.8 dB, which is above average. It has quality, it has strength, I didn't expect anything less.

The smartphone runs on a slightly older Android 11 operating system that supports Croatian and other languages (multilanguage), and on top of it is the company's new Doke OS 3.0 interface, which is similar to the "stock" Android OS with some small changes. However, since it is a robust smartphone, there are some additional applications that I find very useful, and you will see why.

Here are some applications that are worth mentioning:

- Child Mode - an application that does not need to be explained in particular

- Cold Room - it is also called "App Freezer", if you are not sure about some applications or their security is suspicious, run them in this mode (more details search on the official website –

App Migration – easy transfer of apps from old to new device

FM radio - good old radio

- Game mode - speeds up the operation of video games, both pre-installed and newly installed

- Manual - user manual for this smartphone

SOS – setting contacts (phone numbers) in case of an emergency health or other situation

ToolBag – useful tools such as compass, volume meter, compass, magnifier, barometer, pedometer, etc.

Smartphone manager – optimization of smartphone operation ( cleaning, speeding up, battery and application management)

As expected, the smartphone works quickly and fluidly, as I expected considering the very strong hardware configuration. In short, using this smartphone is a pleasure.

The smartphone also has above-average characteristics in the area of connectivity. It supports 4G LTE connections on both nanoSIM cards, and the call quality is very good. Here's what it all supports:

• 2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900MHz

• 3G WCDMA: 850/900/1700/1900/2100MHz

• 4G LTE: 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2300 /2500/2600MHz

• dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11(ac)

• Bluetooth 5.2

• GPS (A-GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo)

GPS works great - during GPS testing, we found as many as 48 satellites (36 active) with a precision of only 1 meter.

In short, the battery is great, as well as fast charging. It is an 8530mAh lithium-polymer battery that supports fast charging (11V/3A = 33W), and it is convenient that it also supports reversible charging so that it acts as a "power bank" battery that can charge other devices.

We tested this in five consecutive charging and discharging and obtained the following results:

– 57% in 30 minutes

– 93% in 60 minutes

– 100% in 83 minutes (1:23 hours)

In our surfing endurance test with the screen always on (on screen, 50% brightness), the battery lasted as long as 18 hours and 35 minutes, which is more than twice as long as the average battery life of 8 hours. They say that the battery will last up to 10 hours of playing video games, 12 hours of watching videos, 32 hours of phone calls, 34 hours of listening to music, and up to 720 hours of standby time, which you can see in the picture below. If you ask me, the battery lasts even more than declared, it's really great!

Video games

As expected, video games work great, even the most graphically demanding ones, and this can be attributed to the Helio G96 processor, which confirms my theory that the smartphone can really be used for gaming as well. How it behaves in video games, here are our gaming impressions.

– PUBG Mobile – online third-person shooter – find weapons and organize everything around you! The game runs quite smoothly, we only notice slight occasional jerks. There is no heating of the device.

- Real Racing 3 - still the most realistic racing simulation on the Android platform, a real challenge to play and test... the game runs quite smoothly, there are slight jerks only when displaying a large number of racing cars. There is still no heating of the smartphone.

Yes, the Blakcview BV8800 smartphone can be used for playing even more demanding video games.

Benchmark tests

We also performed a handful of synthetic benchmark tests that can serve as a reference point for the power, speed and capabilities of this device.

Here are the benchmark numbers:

– AnTuTu – 231733

– Geekbench – 514 (Single-Core), 1296 (Multi-Core)

– MobileBench – 533

– AI Benchmark – 44.9K

– AITuTu – 61177

During testing, the smartphone warmed up slightly.

The company Blackview has done a great job again and for a little more than 300 euros they have made an excellent robust smartphone that you will recognize under the name BV8800. The smartphone is perfectly balanced in all its characteristics and, as I mentioned, it is difficult to find a fault.

The emphasis is of course on its robustness and water resistance, extremely strong and very well optimized battery and night infrared camera. However, it will also be great for everyday use, watching movies and playing video games, and it proved to be very generous here. All in all, it works fast and fluidly, during testing there was not a single slowdown or stoppage. It is also good that it has a stronger sound, which is always useful in an open space. Some will miss the memory expansion and analog audio input, but I don't.

I believe that many who are looking for a new robust smartphone will choose the Blackview BV8800, which pleasantly surprised me. By the way, you can find Blackview smartphones on sale at the popular domestic SE-MARK webshop ( where they are sold at a price of HRK 2,499. and they will provide you with all the necessary customer support, they also have service and a two-year warranty.
